Making a Resident’s Wish Come True for Her Birthday

Jean

In the lead-up to Resident Jean's birthday, we started to discuss what she wanted to do for her birthday and if she had any birthday wishes. Jean told us that she would love to go to the theatre and see The King and I. Jean hasn’t been to the theatre in many moons as she said she loved the environment, and this was her one wish, so our activity team started their work and got Jean tickets to see the king and I shortly after her birthday.

On the lead-up to the trip, Jean was getting more and more excited and telling everyone that she was going to the theatre. Jean started her morning meeting with a friend then we had some lunch and set off to the Playhouse in Edinburgh, we enjoyed getting a programme and getting some refreshments from the stalls.

During the interval, we enjoyed some ice cream because as Jean said, “you can’t watch the theatre without ice cream”. At the end of the show waiting for the taxi, Jean said that she was overjoyed with her day and hadn’t had a better birthday in a while and was so thankful to the activity staff who arranged the trip, took her and provided some wonderful company.

At Trinity House, we have created a new initiative of making resident's wishes come true for their birthdays. For residents' birthday recently, we have made a number of wishes come true, such as organising for a gentleman resident to become a zookeeper for the day and we plan on hosting a Trinity House ladies' day for another resident.

This initiative highlights the person-centred care we provide for our residents so that they can experience a fulfilling and satisfying way of life on their terms, no matter their age, interests or abilities.

We are so pleased to have been able to fulfill Jean's wish and many other residents' wishes, and we will continue to make this a reality for future residents. If you'd like to know more about the activities we organise for our residents at Trinity Care Home in Edinburgh have a look at our blog.
