Zen Garden Wellbeing Activity
What activity did we do this month?
This month we have been focusing on everyone's wellbeing at Trinity House. Our receptionist, Rob, had the amazing idea to create a Zen Garden.
How did we create the garden?
Our activity staff and residents were hard at work picking out the right gravel colour, plants, and stones. Together as a community, the Zen Garden started to come to life.
How did residents respond to the project?
The residents love changing the layout, wanting to add more shells from our trips to the beach, or adding more plants. The Zen Garden will be a project we constantly add to, and residents are welcome to add their unique touch to the space.
How can people enjoy the area?
The Zen Garden is already an amazing place for us to sit and do outdoor yoga when we get the sun or a place for people to sit and relax.
What are the benefits of a Zen Garden?
Zen Gardens, also known as Japanese rock gardens, offer numerous benefits for wellbeing. They promote relaxation, reduce stress, and encourage mindfulness. The act of arranging and maintaining the garden can be a therapeutic activity, helping individuals to focus and find inner peace. The serene environment of a Zen Garden provides a perfect backdrop for meditation and contemplation, enhancing mental clarity and emotional stability.
How can you contribute to the Zen Garden?
Everyone is welcome to contribute to the Zen Garden. Whether you have a favourite plant you'd like to see included, a special stone, or shells from your beach trips, your unique additions are valued. This is a communal space, and every contribution helps make it more special and personalized. Feel free to share your ideas with the activity staff or join in during our garden improvement days.
Tips for creating your own at home
Creating a Zen Garden at home can be a rewarding project. Here are some simple steps to get you started:
- Choose a quiet spot: Find a peaceful area in your garden or home where you can set up your Zen Garden.
- Gather materials: You'll need gravel or sand, stones, and some plants. You can also add decorative elements like shells or small statues.
- Design your layout: Think about how you want your garden to look. Arrange the stones and plants in a way that feels balanced and harmonious.
- Maintain regularly: Regularly rake the gravel or sand to create patterns, and take care of the plants to keep your Zen Garden looking beautiful. By following these steps, you can create a tranquil space that brings a sense of calm and relaxation to your home.
Staff Spotlight: Rob's Inspiration
Our receptionist Rob, who inspired the Zen Garden project, shares his thoughts: "I've always found peace in nature, and I wanted to bring that sense of tranquillity to Trinity House. Seeing the residents engage with the garden and make it their own has been incredibly rewarding. It's wonderful to see how something so simple can bring so much joy and calmness to our community."
