The King’s Coronation
We have all had coronation fever at Trinity House and what a weekend of celebrations we enjoyed with music, both lively and solemn, fantastic food, lots of fun, friendship and laughter.
We were so keen to get into the spirit of the national celebrations that we kicked off the weekend with a lively Coronation Party the day before the actual, official coronation weekend began.
Anita, who is one of our favourite entertainers provided the music and it was not long before residents, staff and relatives were joining in with the singing and with the percussion instruments which Anita had brought with her. Our special ‘Coronation Cocktails’ helped the singing along nicely too!
Coronation Day at our care home in Edinburgh began with an early continental breakfast. Then it was time to move the cinema so that we could watch the historic events unfolding in London on the big screen. All eyes were fixed on the live stream. Residents, many of whom could remember the 1953 coronation, very much enjoyed seeing all the pomp and pageantry in comfort. A few remembered the late Queen’s coronation being the first time they had seen a TV. How things have changed!
It was great fun to dress up as King or Queen for the day. Residents really entered into the spirit of this and were very happy to give us all a royal wave.
It is no secret that we love to party at Trinity House. The coronation gave us a great reason to get together and celebrate. As you will see, head chef Stevie and his team always provide such a wonderful buffet on occasions such as this. Thanks, Stevie.
We danced and sang the afternoon away to the music of choice (Jimmy Shand). Oh! And plenty of flag-waving too.
Imagine our surprise when the doorbell rang and standing there was the King himself! We are so grateful to His Majesty for taking time, on the busiest of days, to fly up from London to see us. The young ones could hardly believe their eyes!
It was a wonderful weekend here at Trinity House. A big thank you to everyone who participated and attended.
