As the sun casts its warming glow upon the landscape, Trinity House Care Home in Edinburgh welcomed the arrival of spring with open arms, setting sail on its first barge trip of the season. Partnering with the Seagull Trust Cruises, a charitable organisation dedicated to providing free barge trips for individuals with special needs and the elderly.

The excursion began with a leisurely cruise along the picturesque Ratho Canal, accompanied by the gentle hum of the water and the comforting embrace of the spring breeze. Passengers were treated to a fascinating insight into the history of the canal, learning about its origins and the vital role it played in the region's development.

Of particular interest was the revelation that the toll path running alongside the canal served as the original thoroughfare when the waterway was first established. As guests absorbed these historical tidbits, memories of bygone days flooded their minds, prompting animated discussions and shared anecdotes of past picnics and outdoor adventures.

Amidst the tranquil surroundings, lunch was served onboard, providing a moment of respite for passengers to savour delicious food and engage in heartfelt conversations. As plates were cleared and stories exchanged, the bonds of friendship and community grew stronger with each passing moment.

The return journey offered its own delights, as passengers marvelled at the sight of a local swan nesting along the water's edge. Crew members regaled the group with fascinating insights into the nesting habits of these majestic birds, highlighting their remarkable adaptability to fluctuating water levels.

Looking ahead, we're is gearing up for our much-anticipated summer fete, scheduled to take place on the 27th of July. Residents, staff and members of the community are invited to come together for a day of fun-filled activities, entertainment and delicious treats (see poster below for details).
