Our VE Day Celebrations

VE Day at Trinity Lodge

We had a brilliant week here at Trinity House celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and what a time we had! The sun was shining and music was playing. We kicked things off earlier in the week by getting crafty with our residents. They helped make lovely red poppy decorations out of cardboard – painted with care and full of meaning. It was a great way to get everyone chatting and thinking about what VE Day means to them. Even our Head of Domestic got stuck in with the planning, which was lovely to see. It really felt like a team effort from start to finish.

To round the week off, we threw a proper garden party – and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The garden was looking beautiful with bunting strung up across the front and back, and plenty of tables set out for everyone to sit and enjoy the sunshine. We fired up the BBQ and served plenty of favourites, with residents tucking in and enjoying the fresh air.

The highlight of the day had to be the wonderful Margo, also known as the Butterfly Singer. She came along in her vintage music dress, guitar in hand, and filled the garden with songs from years gone by. The residents were clapping along, some singing, and a few were even having a wee dance in their chairs! Her music really brought back memories and sparked some lovely conversations. We heard stories from the past, from wartime dances to family tales, it was such a special part of the day.

And of course, we finished off with some old favourites – ice lollies and ice creams all round! They went down an absolute treat in the heat. It was a day full of fun, but also a chance to pause and remember – to share stories and connect. These are the moments that matter, and we’re so glad we could all enjoy it together.

If you’d like to see what life’s like at Trinity House, why not pop in for a visit? We’d love to welcome you.
