Celebrating Christmas with Loved Ones
Here at Trinity House, love is in the air as we have a few couples who are spending time together over the festive period. We have interviewed a few of them to ask them how they are looking forward to Christmas at Trinity House and their best Christmas memories.
Mary and Alfred
The first couple we spoke to was Mary and Alfred who have been married for 70 years; They have spent every Christmas together since marriage. When we asked Mary what her best Christmas memory was with Alfred, she said just being with him every year is the best thing, opening presents and seeing him smile, when we asked Alfred, he said planning the day with Mary was the best thing at Christmas. Mary and Alfred's best memory of Christmas is their first Christmas with their daughter.
Eileen and Ian
The second couple we spoke with was Eileen and Ian, they have been married for almost 60 years. Unfortunately, they didn’t spend the last Christmas together last year due to Ian falling ill, this was upsetting to Eileen because this was her last Christmas at home so we at Trinity House have promised to make this year a special one. They both agreed the best this about having Christmas together is having their families around. Eileen and Ian’s best Christmas memory was when her kids were younger, they wanted to get dressing gowns for Christmas so Santa delivered them for them, Eileen recounted seeing two heads appear by the living room door whispering that “Santa has been” as they opened the door to see their dressing gowns, they both said it was just magical to watch and wish they could relive it.
Jean and Charles
The third couple we spoke to was Jean and Charles, they have been married for 62 years, and they have spent every year together celebrating Christmas. Jean told me about the many times that Charles took her on business trips at Christmas time, so she didn’t have to be alone. She recounted the times he took her to Paris for Christmas and spent Boxing Day walking around Paris and taking in the sights and festivities. Charles told me that he wasn’t big on Christmas, but he always tried for Jean. They are both looking forward to spending another amazing Christmas together.
We have loved listening to our residents' personal stories about how they spent their Christmas' in the past and their plans for this year. It's so wonderful to see our residents spending time with their loved ones and creating new cherished memories.
