A Walk on the Wild Side with Calum’s Creatures

Here at Trinity House, we always look forward to days when we have visitors in our home, but this one was something really special. We were lucky enough to have Calum visit us with some of his amazing animals, and what a treat it was!
He started off by introducing us to his lovely little meerkat, and it’s safe to say she stole everyone’s hearts. She was calm and happy to be held, and the residents were so gentle with her. It’s always lovely to see how relaxed everyone becomes when they’re around animals, there’s just something very calming and comforting about it. We learned all sorts of interesting facts too – and even the staff were surprised by a few of them!
Next came the armadillo, who wasted no time at all in having a little trot around the floor to say hello. Everyone had a good look (and a chuckle) as he scurried around on his tiny feet. Calum explained all about their hard shells and how they protect themselves. It was fascinating, and the residents had loads of questions.

Then it was time to meet the blue-tongued skink, Calum described him as a snake with legs, and that really stuck with everyone. He was very relaxed being handled, and most of the residents gave it a go. Seeing his bright blue tongue flicking in and out was a real highlight.
We finished up with probably the biggest surprise of the day, a lovely, gentle python called Caramel. A few of our more adventurous residents were brave enough to let her rest around their shoulders, and they couldn’t stop smiling. One of our ladies, who’s originally from Australia, said it reminded her of home, although she joked that the snakes back there are much bigger!
It was a fascinating afternoon—it's not often you see these unusual creatures outside a zoo, never mind in your own home, so we loved our wee walk on the wild side. If you’d like to see what life at Trinity House is really like, we’d love to show you around. Give us a call or pop us a message to arrange a visit – there’s always something going on and a warm welcome waiting for you.
